Barcelona Discarded Luis Suárez as a Transfer Target After Rejection of Julián Álvarez
Barcelona has officially ruled out the possibility of signing Luis Suárez, a key player for Sporting de Portugal, after the rejection of Julián Álvarez. The club is still seeking a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski, who has moved to the Chicago Fire of the MLS.
Barcelona Denies Romano's Report
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona had considered Luis Suárez as a potential signing to bolster their attack, should the deal for Julián Álvarez fail. However, the Sport newspaper reported that the Colombian striker was not an option for the club, despite being offered several months ago. At 28 years old, Suárez has scored 38 goals in 53 matches for Sporting de Lisboa and is contracted until June 2030, with a release clause of 80 million euros, making his transfer complicated. Although his quality is not in question, the club's sports department has not made any moves for him and does not consider him a viable option at this time.
Pursuit of the Striker
Barcelona needs to strengthen its attack for the upcoming season and the club's sporting director, Deco, and coach Hansi Flick's dream is to sign the Argentine Julian Alvarez, but negotiations with Atlético de Madrid are not progressing. It is in this context that Luis Suárez's name has been mentioned as a potential signing, given his proven value in Portuguese football. However, the price and sporting reasons make this name a current non-option. Granada, Real Zaragoza, and Almería have also shown interest in the Colombian striker, but his departure from Lisbon is complicated due to his release clause and age.
