The 2026 Medellín Marathon confirmed the participation of 30,000 runners from 51 countries and 364 Colombian municipalities. The event, taking place from September 4 to 6, will include the Expo Runners fair at Plaza Mayor from September 4 to 5. The initiative will bring together 132 national and international brands, expecting over 40,000 visitors. Claudia Pérez, director of the event, highlighted the growth of the marathon as an international reference for running in Latin America.

Economic benefits

The 2026 edition, sponsored by Sistecrédito, projects an economic impact exceeding $20 million. Over 3,000 international runners, including participants from Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, the United States, and Mexico, will drive economic dynamism. The city registered more than 5,300 entries from Puerto Rico, the country with the highest foreign participation. The event will include races of 5K, 10K, 21K, and 42K, with starts from Parque de los Pies Descalzos, Parque de las Luces, and Parques del Río. The Medellín metro will operate from 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 6.

The competition will have new routes

Organizers confirmed that 45% of the registrants are women, reflecting the growth of female participation in 10K and 21K distances. Additionally, the Medellín Marathon will maintain its social impact with initiatives for families affected in Sipí (Chocó) and will be valid for marks in the Boston, New York, Berlin, and Chicago marathons. In 2025, David Gómez and Dina Velásquez won the 42K race, while Joseph Kiprono and Carmen Amelia Toaquiza triumphed in the half marathon.
