Dimayor Decision
On August 19, the División Mayor del Fútbol Colombiano (Dimayor) held an Extraordinary Assembly where club leaders reviewed the calendar and tournament development. In the official statement, Dimayor confirmed that Liga BetPlay 2026-II will keep its current format, ensuring continuity of the competition system that began the championship.
Changes to Copa Colombia
Dimayor also announced significant adjustments to Copa Colombia. The round‑of‑16 and quarter‑finals will be played as single matches, a departure from previous editions. The semi‑finals and final will remain two‑legged ties.
Home‑field Rules
To determine home advantage in the round‑of‑16 and quarter‑finals, Dimayor set that if a tie features a Torneo BetPlay team against a Liga BetPlay team, the second‑tier club will host. If both teams are from Liga BetPlay, the home spot will go to the team better placed in the first‑semester re‑ranking.
Commitment to Colombian Football
In the statement, Dimayor said, “the Dimayor and its affiliated clubs reaffirm their commitment to the development of competitions, the fulfillment of the schedule and the well‑being of all actors that make up Colombian football.” These decisions aim to ensure the normal progress of the championships and protect those involved in the national football ecosystem.
